Celebrating inspirational Australians
Australian of the Year Awards
For more than 65 years the Australian of the Year Awards have recognised outstanding achievements of inspirational Australians. The Awards uncover leading citizens who can be role models for us all. They prompt us to think about how we too, can contribute to creating a better Australia.
Each year, recipients are awarded across four categories:
- Australian of the Year
- Senior Australian of the Year (those aged 65 and over)
- Young Australian of the Year (those aged 16 to 30)
- Australia’s Local Hero.
Australia’s Local Heroes
The award for Australia’s Local Hero was introduced in 2003. This category honours people who are making a difference in their local communities.
