Aboriginal rights activists during the 1938 Day of Mourning
On 26 January 1938 many Australians celebrated the sesquicentenary (150-year anniversary) of British colonisation of Australia. At the same time, some Aboriginal people protested and declared the day a Day of Mourning. This photograph shows Aboriginal activists Tom Foster, Jack Kinchela, Douglas Nicholls, William Cooper and John Patten discussing a resolution at the Day of Mourning protest, held at Australian House, Sydney.
