Australian Citizenship Quilt

In 2005 the Australian Citizenship quilt was pieced together by the Canberra Quilters from squares contributed by Australian citizens. An initiative of the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs in association with Better Homes and Gardens magazine, Australians were invited to craft squares on the theme of celebrating citizenship for assembly into an Australian Citizenship Quilt. Contributors were also asked to write a brief story about their journey to Australia or what it means to be an Australian citizen.

The quilt was unveiled by the Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, the Hon John Cobb MP, on 17 September 2005 at Parliament House in celebration of Australian Citizenship Day.
