Dame Enid Lyons, about 1936

Portrait of Dame Enid Lyons, wife of the Right Honourable J.A. Lyons who was Prime Minister of Australia during the period 1932-1939. In 1943 she became one of the first women to be elected to the Australian Parliament. Lyons was the first female federal Cabinet member, and held the office of Vice President of the Executive Council from 1949 until she retired from Parliament because of ill health in 1951.
