‘Deep Sinking, Bakery Hill, Ballaarat [sic] 1853’, by Samuel Thomas Gill

A coloured print of a colonial mining scene. Shown within a rural setting are several mine shafts with winches and white fabric shoots hoisted above. There is a horse and cart shown in the foreground. Samuel Thomas Gill was an English-born artist who migrated to Australian in 1839. He sketched and painted many colonial scenes, and is especially well known for his depictions of the Victorian goldfields.
