‘Dog of New South Wales’ by Peter Mazell (artist and engraver), 1789

The first published depiction of a dingo from The Voyage of Governor Phillip to Botany Bay with an Account of the Establishment of the Colonies of Port Jackson and Norfolk Island, 1789.

A hand-coloured engraving of a dingo. A smaller image above depicts the inside of the animal's mouth and is labelled ‘Under Jaw’. The work is entitled ‘DOG OF NEW SOUTH WALES’.
