The Founding of Australia. By Capt. Arthur Phillip R.N. Sydney Cove, Jan. 26th 1788, by Algernon Talmage, 1937

Captain Arthur Phillip RN was the commander of the First Fleet of 11 ships that sailed into Botany Bay, New South Wales, in January 1788. Three days later he chose a site at nearby Sydney Cove, in Port Jackson, and on 26 January began to establish a convict settlement. This painting was commissioned to by the Australasian Pioneers Club to celebrate the sesquicentenary of that event.
