Franchise for Aborigines, filmstrip, 1962
The Commonwealth Electoral Act 1962 received assent on 21 May 1962. It granted all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people the option to enrol and vote in federal elections.
After this legislative change, the filmstrip Franchise for Aborigines was created and used throughout Australian communities to explain and show the participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the voting process. This image was used in the filmstrip.
