Gough Whitlam delivers the Labour Party's policy speech at Blacktown Civic Centre in Sydney, 1972

Gough Whitlam was prime minister of Australia from 5 December 1972 to 11 November 1975. In 1972 he campaigned under the slogan ‘It’s Time’ which reflected the Labor Party’s hope for a change of government, and for sweeping reforms in the way Australia was governed. In 1975 Whitlam became the only Prime Minister to be removed from office by the Governor-General.
