Jack White

Jack White, a buffalo shooter, crocodile hunter and prospector, farmed a small property with his Aboriginal partner on the Finniss River, near Rum Jungle. In 1949 he discovered uranium ore in the area. He received a £25,000 reward for the discovery. Five years later Australia’s first large uranium mine opened at Rum Jungle.
