Map of the Northern Territory Emergency Response
In 2007, in response to allegations about violence and abuse of children in some remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in the Northern Territory, the Australian Parliament passed the Northern Territory Emergency Response Act. The Act allowed the Australian Government to intervene in aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s lives. It is often referred to as the Intervention. This map shows ‘prescribed’ areas (in orange), where intervention activities took place.
