The Prince’s Bridge, over the Yarra River, was opened in 1851. This image shows crowds consisting of mounted troops and fashionably dressed men and women, gathered along the banks of the Yarra River, a cannon recently fired by group of soldiers, cavalry lined up on the right. The new bridge, designed by David Lennox and known as the Lennox’s Bridge, in the distance.
