Stories of Modern Australia

Join Behind the News star Jack Evans and discover the amazing stories told by objects in the Museum’s collection, and the individuals who lived through some of the big moments in Australia’s modern history.

Produced in partnership with ABC Education, this six-part series features Museum curators sharing the stories of key collection objects that illuminate the periods of Federation, the Great Depression, the First and Second World Wars, the 1950s, and the activism of the 1960s and beyond.

Learn what a braille watch can tell us about the impacts of the First World War, what cinema seats reveal about Australian society in the 1950s, and how a glitteringly glamourous costume can communicate the desire for change.
