At a ceremony held in Oslo on 10 December 2017 the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize. ICAN was awarded the prize for its efforts to encourage countries to commit to, and put into practice, the United Nations Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
