Captain Arthur Phillip, by Francis Wheatley
Captain Arthur Phillip RN was the commander of the First Fleet of 11 ships that sailed into BotanyBay, New South Wales, in January 1788. Phillip is generally regarded as an enlightened leader for his time, who tried to reform, as well as discipline, his convict charges.
