Cathy Freeman after winning the 400m final at the Sydney Olympics, 25 September 2000
On 25 September 200, at the Sydney Olympics, Aboriginal athlete Cathy Freeman won the women's 400 metres race. After winning the gold medal, Freeman did a victory lap in front of the ecstatic home town crowd carrying both the Australian and Aboriginal flags.
