A ceremony to name Australia’s new capital ‘Canberra’, Kurrajong Hill (now known as Capital Hill), 12 March 1913

On 12 March 1913 the Governor-General’s wife, Lady Denman, announced that Canberra was the name of Australia’s new national capital. About 500 guests, 2000 mounted troops and 3000 observers were present.
