Edith Cowan

Edith Cowan (nee Brown) was born in 1861 on a remote sheep station near Geraldton, Western Australia. On 12 March 1921, she became the first woman elected to an Australian parliament. She won the seat of West Perth, becoming a member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly.
