Flood gauge, Gundagai, New South Wales
Murrumbidgee flood gauge showing flood heights throughout Gundagai's history. The flood which swept through Gundagai in June of 1852 remains the deadliest flood in Australia’s recorded history. Between 80 and 100 people died. The number of people who died would have been much higher if not for the heroic efforts of local Wiradjuri men. Over three days, they used a bark canoe and a rowboat to pull survivors from the trees.
