Native Police Encampment, Ballarat, Victoria, by William Strutt, 1853
Native Police forces were made up of Aboriginal troopers under European officers. The Native Police worked to suppress Aboriginal resistance to European colonisation in newly settled areas. The Native Police used extremely violent methods, and at times it seems was trying to completely destroy Aboriginal groups.
