Prime Minister Bob Hawke with Sex Discrimination Commissioner Pam O'Neill, 1984

The Sex Discrimination Act 1984 made it illegal to discriminate against women in the workplace. It also created the Office of the Sex Discrimination Commissioner. Pam O'Neill was Australia’s first Sex Discrimination Commissioner.
