Stanhope printing press

This cast iron Stanhope printing press was manufactured in the 1830s. In the 1930s, when it became part of the collection of the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, it was thought to have been imported into the colony by convict and publisher Andrew Bent. Recent research, however, suggests that it is highly unlikely that Bent ever owned this Stanhope press or printed a newspaper on it.
