Two surf lifesavers stand looking out at the ocean at Mollymook, New South Wales
The first surf lifesaving club was founded at Bondi in February 1907 and several others were established soon after. The iconic red and yellow flags were introduced in 1935. Red and yellow caps became standard in 1939.
