TIM SOUTPHOMMASANE: The end of the White Australia policy opened the door to modern Australia multiculturalism. It meant that the old practice of taking only British and European migrants was discarded definitively. It opened the door to Asian, African, Middle Eastern, South American immigration. It’s crucial to what we see as multicultural Australia today.
