As part of this learning module you have investigated the impacts of the extension of colonisation before the 1900s.
1. From your investigations, what have you discovered about contact and conflict between European colonisers and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people?
2. What are the similarities and differences between the four Defining Moments and case study in terms of helping you better understand contact and conflict between European settlers and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people?
3. In each of the four Defining Moments and case study, were the effects of contact and conflict between European settlers and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people ‘intended’ or ‘unintended’? Explain your answer.
4. The case studies you have looked at have focused on events in New South Wales, Tasmania and Western Australia. Conduct some further research to see what contact and conflict occurred between European settlers and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in other colonies during the nineteenth century.
